Phillies Acquire Howie Kendrick from the Dodgers
Pete Mackanin got a veteran bat that he had been clamoring for. The Philadelphia Phillies acquired second baseman/left fielder Howie Kendrick from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday in exchange for first baseman Darin Ruf and utility man Darnell Sweeney. The 33-year-old Kendrick hit .255/.326/.366 to go with eight homers and 40 RBI for the Dodgers last season, a down year by his standards. He’s a career .289 hitter. Kendrick is set to earn $10 million this upcoming year and is a free agent at the end of the season. The Phillies finished last in runs scored and second to last in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage in 2016.
